Short Film - Lisa C. Soto, "In Her Own Words"

Blog by: Russo Mutuc

October, 2012 - Here is one of the latest short film I had worked on, directed by, Yana Bille.
Something very different; a month ago, I photographed this moving art piece. The director psuedo dubbed it, "living portrait". The short film was just recently released, and it will create a thought provoking idea to your senses

This film has no influence from post - special effects, just the visuals, narration, and music that will carry your idea to the piece http://vimeo.com/51487477
When I was offered to capture this project, I was sold considering this would be something different to what I would normally do. The film turned out great!

Here are some pre-production photos of the art pieces. I was studying the angles, lighting, and movements.

When I reached out to Russ with the intention to create a portrait of Los Angeles based visual artist, Lisa C. Soto, he got excited as he knew this would be something different. The project, entitled, “Lisa C. Soto: In Her Own Words”, showcases Ms. Soto’s delicate, almost ethereal pieces of art, that she calls, “Abstracted Cartographic Drawings In Space”. We had to approach the project with a lot of heart as the work is both delicate and profound, and I wanted those feelings to be represented in the video. This engaging film also carries an inspiring, sociopolitical message that is delivered with grace. Our successful collaboration resulted in the creating of an intimate and well-crafted movie that showcases the talent of all people involved.
